It is impossible for everyone to win.

Yet we pretend that its the morally right to think this way.

This has many different applications:

1. In economic equality. The communist governments of the past 100 years have tried to make this a reality. They’ve all failed. Some because they never actually intended to create an equal society and others because it was just too hard.

2. In interpersonal relationships. Whether its in the competition for a sexual partner or just for someone’s time, there is always one person who is more desirable than the others. By definition it’s impossible for everyone to get some of that person’s time.

Its important to internalize this if you want to achieve your goals.

You don’t deserve your goals. There is nothing that you are entitled to.

There is just the competition between you and the others that want what you want.
