It can take a lifetime to get to know someone.
In the interest of accelerating our communications and moving past the getting to know each other phase faster, I’ve collated the values that define how I strive to operate on a day to day basis. It is inspired by a colleague at Croud (Avinash Kaushik).
For each of my values I’ve included a reference book that more fully defines how I embody the value.
I strive to (and hope that others do towards me):
Take extreme ownership
Always think about what I can do better next time to create a better outcome, without thought to whose fault the current outcome was. I thrive on information gathering and tough but valid feedback.
Reference book: Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink
Serve as a trusted advisor
For my colleagues and friends I strive to actively listen, remember details, and address their wants and needs to earn their trust.
Reference book: The Trusted Advisor by David H. Maister, Robert Galford, Charles Green
Improve by stepping out of my comfort zone
Always push myself to the next level, personally and professionally by doing the things that are slightly uncomfortable but will grow my happiness, skills and wealth over time.
Reference Book: Tools of Titans by Tim Ferris
Be radically candid
Always share the truth with the necessary context to help move colleagues & friends forward. I default to transparency and believe that the more information shared the better outcomes are.
Reference Books:
– Radical Candor by Kim Scott
– Lying by Sam Harris
Conduct crucial conversations
When the stakes are high, have the difficult and compassionate conversations that will change ongoing issues.
Reference Book: Crucial Conversations by Joseph Grenny, Al Switzler, Ron McMillan
