When having a difficult conversation image yourself on the receiving end of what you’re going to say.  

Its easy to know that the person you’re talking to did this or that wrong.
Its hard to experience how they are going to feel when you tell them that.
By roleplaying in your head you can avoid hitting too much of a nerve.
Hopefully, you can avoid an entrenching on the other person’s part. You don’t want to attack them personally and make them feel like they need to defend themselves.
You want them to listen to you and take it under consideration.
To do that, what you’re saying must align with their vision of the world.
By roleplaying in your head you can identify the parts of your message that contradict that vision and change them ahead of time.
